| We are Alice Kwanten and Mathieu Leynen. Our kennel, 'Het Balkenhof', is named after the region where it is situated: ' de Balken". It begon all in 1987, when we bought our first dog: Laika. a white bitch. Laika was everything we expected: she had an enormous will to please and was greatly valued for her vigorousness in tracking down lost game. However, she was no good for breeding purpose, so we bought Sweettrees Nina. She is the ancestress of our kennel and the mother af a great many beautiful labradors. We have been breeding for fifteen years and possess several real champions. We do not only raise our labradors as hunters, but also as very pleasant home dogs. For us, a labrador character is what counts. We breed honest dogs, wilth a free and open character and an enormous will to please, without being too servile. Our great prides are Qira and Kilien.
